FREE Backpacks with school supplies, health screenings, food, and live entertainment.
Get your event passport stamped to receive a free backpack with school supplies. Children must be present to receive a backpack.
Visit the Health and Education Zones for free health screenings for youth – basic vision and dental, height and weight, free haircuts by professional barbers, stop by the mobile library and receive a free book, and more. For parents, blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol screenings, and resources from more than 90 community organizations for parents and youth, including voter registration and affordable extracurricular activities.
In the Kids Zone, enjoy face painting, the bounce house, photos with cartoon characters and mascots, run through the obstacle course and more!
Block Party!
Letz Get it POPPIN with DJ Chocolate Shake, DJ Kenny Kixx, local performers, and Cupid on the center stage!
Join the fun while showing off your dance moves with friends, line dancing group, sorority, fraternity, or fitness workout group!
Volunteer!
Volunteers are needed Saturday, July 25th, for our annual back-to-school community event to help us celebrate education with students and families as they prepare to return to school.

Volunteer Guidelines and Qualifications:
We appreciate your interest in volunteering for the Back-to-School Backpack Giveaway and Block Party on Saturday, July 26th at the Indianapolis Urban League. This is an outdoor event. Volunteers must be friendly and ready to serve our guests coming to celebrate education, be18 years of age and able to stand and walk for short to extended periods of time. Volunteering does not guarantee access to receiving backpacks. Backpacks are distributed as guests complete an event passport.
