Annually, the Indianapolis Urban League’s Special Population Support Program educates in the community on National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day when organizations come together to shed light on the impact of #HIV and #AIDS on women and girls and show support for those at risk for and living with HIV.
Women of all ages, races, and ethnicities can get #HIV, but some women are more at risk than others
DID YOU KNOW?
- According to the CDC, recent estimates show that 1.2 people in the U.S. have #HIV and of those, 263,900 are women
- Women are less likely to be screened for #HIV in part due to the perception that they are not at risk
- PrEP is one way to prevent #HIV for people who do not have HIV but who may be at high risk
