The Indianapolis Urban League (IUL) continues to be the leading voice articulating the need for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Central Indiana Community. With the state of our country and the future fate of our underserved populations at risk, we strive to be the safe haven offering tangible resources and viable solutions to the individuals and families we empower on a daily basis.
We remain committed to our mission while growing our programs to meet the needs of our clients and the demands of the workforce and continue the ongoing fight for inclusive economics, bias crimes legislation, livable wages, criminal justice reform, improved police/community relations, protections for citizens against evictions and payday lenders with excessive loan rates.
Since its inception, Equal Opportunity Day continues to unite leaders while celebrating the accomplishments of our aspiring youth, underserved and underemployed adults, The Exchange Fellows, and raise awareness for our most pressing community challenges while raising funds to support empowering community programs and services for underserved residents.
Keynote Speaker:
Daryl Davis

Every generation has its social challenges. However in today’s world the rapid rate of our increasing diversity is only matched by the acceleration of our rate of division. While technology has evolved us and given us some great advantages, it has also removed the nurturing and devolved us of natural social and interpersonal skills. Our ability to communicate and embrace our differences or civilly settle them, has not kept up with the richness our ever-evolving diversity has to offer.
In generations past people would call one another via the telephone. Today we text and email one another, without the benefit of hearing the tone of the person sending the message or seeing their physical expressions in person. This leaves us to our own feelings and interpretations of the sender’s mood. We may sometimes may misinterpret what the sender wishes to convey as opposed to communication over the phone, in-person, or even virtual platforms such as Zoom. Whether it is the fault of social media, spending too much time interacting with one’s cell phone, video games, or lack of training in interpersonal skills, the lack of socialization and communicatory skills are leading to triggers which when not addressed, are in turn culminating in violence.
Proceeds from this fundraiser support the programs and services provided by the Indianapolis Urban League.
