Exchange Leadership Fellows Program

Objectives:

  • Develop next generation of civic leaders through leveraging an intergenerational transfer of knowledge on specific topic areas aligned with the Indianapolis Urban League’s five point strategy and the National Urban League’s State of Black America report.
  • Develop a cohort of individuals that can support each other.
  • Cultivate a public policy orientation that includes disadvantaged or marginalized perspectives.

Program:

Education and Youth Empowerment: Potential speakers or panelists could include Carole Craig, Dr. Lewis Ferebee, Kameelah Shaheed- Diallo, Rep. Greg Porter, Dr. Nate Jones, Dr. Nikki Woodson, Dr. Shawn Smith, Dr. Dena Cushenberry, and Bob Guffin.

Economic Empowerment: Potential speakers or panelists could include Carolyn Mosby, Greg Wilson, Terrie Daniel, Deb Oatts or other NAWBO rep, John Thompson and others.

Health and Quality of Life Empowerment: Potential speakers or panelists could include Jimmy Brown, Herbert Buchanan, Steven Towns, LaRona Dixon, and Dr. Rawls, just to name a few.

Civic Engagement and Leadership Empowerment:  Potential speakers or panelists could include Maggie Lewis, John Hall, Joe Slash, Bill Shrewsberry, Rafael Sanchez, Steve Campbell, and others.

Civil Rights and Racial Justice Empowerment: Potential speakers or panelists could include Sam Odle, Carolene Mays, Miriam Acevedo Davis, Jamal Smith, and Fay Williams.

Other topics may include: Managing relationships, financial health, physical health, networking and working with different generations
