Civil Rights and Racial Justice Empowerment Programs

Since its inception in 1910, the National Urban League and its local affiliates have been at the forefront of the civil-rights movement, and continue that leadership and advocacy role today. With key programs focused on empowering African-Americans to achieve equality in all aspects of American life, the Indianapolis Urban League (IUL) builds the bridges that will close the equality gap for all people.

The Indianapolis Urban League advocates for social justice and closely monitors the economic, political and social climate of the community, interprets the findings, and recommends active policy for change. Locally, the IUL advocates with programs such as:

The network operates under the auspices of the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee. Participants in this monthly meeting include representative of the Mayor’s office, local law enforcement, U.S. Justice Department and Indiana Civil Rights Commission.
