Since its inception in 1910, the National Urban League and its local
affiliates have been at the forefront of the civil-rights movement, and continue
that leadership and advocacy role today. With key programs focused on empowering
African-Americans to achieve equality in all aspects of American life, the
Indianapolis Urban League (IUL) builds the bridges that will close the equality
gap for all people.
The Indianapolis Urban League advocates for social justice and closely monitors
the economic, political and social climate of the community, interprets the
findings, and recommends active policy for change. Locally, the IUL advocates
with programs such as:
Race Relations Leadership Network
The IUL hosts a monthly meeting where community leadership and citizens come
together to discuss issues of race and ethnicity in our community. The network
operates under the auspices of the Greater Indianapolis Progress Committee.
Participants in this monthly meeting include representative of the Mayor’s
office, local law enforcement, U.S. Justice Department and Indiana Civil Rights
Commission.
Diversity and Race Relations Institute – Diversity Strategic Planning, Training
and Consulting
The Diversity and Race Relations Institute (DRRI) is a not-for-profit training
and resource center designed to provide critical resources and skills to
businesses, not-for-profits and communities to help them manage a variety of
diversity initiatives and issues. The mission of the DRRI is to help
individuals, companies, organizations and communities value diversity
initiatives and issues. The mission of the DRRI is to help individuals,
companies, organizations and communities value diversity and use diversity as a
tool to maximize individual, organizational and community effectiveness and
impact. The DRRI provides project-based consulting and training services at
affordable rates.
In addition to consulting and training, the DRRI works with the community to
develop processes for bringing people together to discuss and address issues of
diversity and race, and works with the community to reach creative solutions.
