Special Populations Support Program – Support Specialist
George W. Wooden has been with the Indianapolis Urban League since August of 2007. He started with Special Populations Support Program as a Counseling and Testing Specialist. He transitioned into his present position as a SPSP Support Specialist in 2010, working one on one with clients in supportive services. George has previously performed counseling and testing for several other ISDH and Marion County granted programs in the Indianapolis area.
George offers his talents as a Sexual Health and Substance Abuse Educator in and around the Indianapolis Metropolitan area. He has worked in collaboration with Indiana State Department of Health and Marion County Public Health departments, including Ryan White on different projects. He works with many Department of Mental Health approved facilities including jails, prisons and drug treatment programs. George enjoys working with his SPSP clients and has a special bond with those struggling to get their lives in order after setbacks and disruptions in their lives.
A passionate HIV Advocate, George has previously received recognition and awards for his work in the HIV/AIDS field including; Outreach Worker Extraordinaire / World AIDS Day in 2008, Continuous Support and Service Award from Brothers United in 2010 and the Courage to Live Award from the Indiana Minority AIDS Coalition in 2013.
George is the youngest of four siblings, who help to take care of their mother. George has been actively involved as a song leader at the Fall Creek Parkway Church of Christ where he grew up and worships today.
